Introduction

Can evolution help us understand human well-being?

The new scientific fields of Darwinian Medicine, Evolutionary Psychology, and Ancestral Health demonstrate that evolution can indeed help us to understand problems in health. As the prominent geneticist Theodosius Dohbzansky popularly said, "Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution." Indeed, evolution strengthens our understanding of the world, our bodies, and our well-being.

These new scientific fields endeavor to explore the human animal through the process of science and the logic of evolution. This inevitably leads to strategies that leverage human nature for the tangible benefit of the individual and the society at large.

Ancestral health acknowledges the truth of evolution, in order to see the big picture of human well-being.

There are many fields relevant to understanding our species. Anthropology, biology, ethology, genetics, and so on, are all disciplines that guide our understanding of evolution as it applies to medicine, nutrition, longevity, health, disease, attraction, love, community, and happiness. Indeed, evolution is the guiding process of human nature. It has shaped our minds and bodies, our wants and desires, our morals and behaviors.
